Serendipity Game Farm & Hiking Trails

Serendipity Eco Trails is situated on a private game farm Tierkloof, in the district of Modimolle/ Mookgopong (Naboomspruit), Limpopo Province, 140 km from Pretoria. Only an hour and a half from PTA and 2 hours from Johannesburg. Serendipity means “Happy chance find” which this truly is.
Our visitors will be able to enjoy our beautiful Waterberg Bush veldt with stunning panoramic views, valleys, gorges, savannahs, indigenous forests, and lots of mountain streams with crystal clear natural rock pools to swim in.
A large variety of trees, abundant bird life and game can be seen and enjoyed while either riding mountain bike, 4×4 or taking on our hiking trails.

THE BUSH VILLA:

(4 6 PERSONS)

  • This is a self -catering private bush chalet with one separate bedroom:
  • One bedroom has a double bed and -en suite bath room. There are 2 single beds and a sleeper couch in the open plan area. Bring own bedding (sleeping bags and pillows)
  • There is a unique Open air/ under the stars Bath room!!!
  • There is NO Electricity available. There is NO FRIDGE available.
  • The Kitchenette has a gas 2 plat stove kettle, pan & 2 pots.​
  • Hikers/Visitors must bring their own cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils.

THE LAPASIDE BUSH CAMP & THE ZEBRA CAMP

  • These 2 separate camps/ units are walking distance from each other.
  • It can be booked for one big group together or 2 separate smaller groups privately.

The Lapaside Rondawel Camp

  • Has 4 separate bedrooms with single beds for 6 – 14 persons.

  • 3 Rooms with 4 single beds and 1 room with 1 double bed. Ablution block with flush toilets, hot and cold showers, hand basins.

The Zebra Camp

  • It can accommodate 4 – 8 persons, 2 separate bedrooms: 1 room with 6 single beds and 1 with 2 single beds. One bathroom with flush toilets,hot and cold showers, hand basins.
  • Both camps have electricity, lighting, bush kitchens with a 2 plate gas stove, fridge, pot, pan and kettle, boma braai facilities, grids provided, wash up zinks and there are under cover areas / veranda’s for seating and socializing when the weather turns out a bit rainy. Tables and chairs provided. There is safe parking under big shady trees.
  • Bring own sleeping bags & pillows, cutlery and crockery and own towels.

  • Recommended to bring your own camping chairs, binoculars, good walking shoes, medical kit, insect repellents, flash lights, extra toilet paper, fire-lighters and definitely your swimming gear to use at all the rock pools!!

HIKING TRAILS

  • The trails stretch over an unusual combination of beautiful valleys, gorges, savannas and mountain streams, rock pools with crystal clear water, indigenous forest, waterfalls and panoramic views of the Waterberg await the hiker.  A large variety of trees, abundant bird life and game can be seen and enjoyed while hiking.  

HIKERS CAN NOW CHOOSE FROM THE FOLLOWING OPTIONS:

There are 2 x day circular trails (13 and 5km) from and back to any of the base camps:  

The Lodge, Bush Villa and Lapaside Bush Camp.

LAPASIDE BACK PACK TRAIL:

  • New links have been developed and clearly marked for the more adventurous hiker to do a stunning new back pack trail from LAPASIDE Camp to the Lodge or Bush Villa camps.
  • Special features and some exciting surprises await the back pack hiker e.g.a safe and well constructed tyre ladder and wooden and steel bridges.

  • Hikers will now follow trails on parts of the Serendipity farm never been used before including a HUGE gorge, high kranses and a big waterfall with a stunning big rock pool (“Xanado” swimming spot) to swim in!!

  • Wood can be booked/ ordered and paid in advance with your hike booking at R30.00 per 8 kg bag.

MOUNTAIN BIKING & TRAIL RUNNING:

  • All Serendipity trails are ideal for trail runners too.

  • There are clearly marked 30km and a 60km trail for all levels of mountain bikers
  • + A 24km technical trail for the more experienced riders.
  • Bring own bikes and helmets.Free of charge with accommodation.

4 X 4 TRAILS:

  • Serendipity Eco Trails was founded in 1988 and has been judged as one of the top 10 trails in South Africa over many years.
  • Our trails stretch over an unusual combination of valleys, gorges, savannah and mountain streams.
  • Rock pools with crystal clear water, indigenous forest, waterfalls, and panoramic views of the Waterberg await you.
  • A large variety of trees, abundant bird life and game can be seen and enjoyed while either flying by, adrenaline pumping, or just slowly taking on the challenge.
  • • We offer: a 3 hour moderate trail, extreme 1 hour trail and a “Legends Loop”.
  • Recovery rate: R500.00 per vehicle if you need the owner to help you out!
  • All RIDERS MUST report to the reception before going on any trails.
  • No one will allowed to attempt any trails without a 4×4 Permit and a signed indemnity form.

CAMPING SITES:  RIVER CAMP:  1 – 3 CAMPS

  • There are 3X beautiful, private sites next to the river.

  • There is NO electricity, plan accordingly.

  • There is running water, safe braai facilities.

  • BRING OWN BRAAI GRIDS and braai utensils.

  • There are cement build tables and chairs.

  • Ablutions with shower, toilet & hand basins.

  • Preferably – high ground clearance vehicles, campers, trailers etc. especially during summer rainy season.
